The Netherlands Space Industry to Highlight Dutch Innovation at the 70th International Astronautical Congress in Washington D.C.
NL and USA to confirm agreement on cooperation in Earth observation
Space companies and institutions from the Netherlands are renowned for their reliable space technology, satellite applications and groundbreaking science. From October 21-25, 2019, the Dutch space sector will present its space solutions for global challenges at the NL Space Pavilion during the 70th International Astronautical Congress (IAC) at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington D.C.
The IAC is the largest yearly space congress in the world, where agencies and the international space industry discuss future projects and show the latest in space technology and applications. The Dutch space sector is represented by fifteen organizations and will be located in the orange NL Space Pavilion (booth 487).

Today, the Netherlands continues to play a leading role in the space sector worldwide, shaping the future of space missions,” says Netherlands Space Office director Harm van de Wetering. “The Netherlands offers space solutions wherever they are needed in the world, with science of the highest quality, pioneering technology and a healthy commercial spirit.”

The Dutch space industry focuses on areas where it can make a difference. It operates at the forefront of technological innovation, creating cost-cutting solutions for the production process of current launchers and concepts for future launch capabilities that deliver (small) satellites into Earth’s orbit. The Netherlands leads the way in specific and purposely chosen niches like small satellites, solar panels and world-renowned astronomy. And The Netherlands is an internationally recognized specialist in developing sensors and instruments for Earth observation satellites.

André Kuipers speaks about SpaceBuzz and ‘inspiring the next generation’ at a IAC Special Session (11.30 AM-12.15 PM. Room 146A). Media are invited to attend this Special Session with the possibility to interview André Kuipers afterwards.
Oct 22 - NL Space event “Together keeping an eye on planet Earth,” US and Netherlands to confirm new cooperation in Space
On October 22nd, from 3 pm to 4 pm, the Netherlands Space Office is hosting a high-level event at the NL Space Pavilion titled “Together keeping an eye on Planet Earth.” The aim is to highlight and celebrate the US-NL cooperation in the field of Earth observation. During the event and in the presence of the ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and astronaut André Kuipers, SRON Netherlands Institute for Space Research and NASA will confirm an agreement in which The Netherlands contributes to the PACE satellite mission with its space based SPEXone aerosol mapping instrument. Media welcome after registration.
Oct 25 - Media are invited to experience SpaceBuzz when local schoolchildren will visit the spaceflight module during the IAC Public Day.
SpaceBuzz - experience Earth like an astronaut
A major attraction a short distance from the NL Space booth is SpaceBuzz. Created by Dutch astronaut André Kuipers, SpaceBuzz is a 15m long rocket-like vehicle equipped with the latest in virtual reality and augmented reality technologies. On board, passengers experience what it’s like to travel to space and see the Earth through the eyes of an astronaut. SpaceBuzz is part of an immersive educational program for schoolchildren ages 10-12 worldwide that addresses the most important themes of the 21st Century.

The NL Space pavilion at IAC comprises the following companies, institutions and participants: TNO, NLR, Airbus Defense and Space Netherlands, ISIS - Innovative Solutions in Space, Hyperion Technologies, Delft University of Technology, Cosine, ASTRON, Eindhoven University of Technology, SRON Netherlands Institute for Space Research, Space Campus Noordwijk, SCN Avatar, SpaceNed and SpaceBuzz. The Netherlands Space Office (NSO) is represented on site as well.

Media registration
Members of the press must submit a request for press credentials to cover IAC 2019 in Washington, D.C. All requests will be reviewed by IAF staff; and submitting a request does not guarantee credentials will be granted. Once approved, press will have to upload a valid government- or company-issued Press Card/Press Credential or provide other documentation proving their status as “Working Press” or “Media” as part of the registration process. NOTE: Although credentialed press can access Technical Sessions as observers, they are forbidden to present papers.
